I am extremely thankful for these selections ! Since the previous design had received so much great feedback, too, I wasn’t sure if the new design, being way more personal and crafty, would get as much exposure. I’m proud it did :)

For those of you who can read French, I wrote an extensive making-of of this new blog design, whose first and second parts can be read directly on Bloody Marie.

Obviously web design has progressively taken a big place in my life and heart. I simply love it, and each opportunity to put the limit further, to learn new CSS and PHP tricks, as well as being lucky to see the final work selected in CSS directories or web design trend articles is fantastic.

This said, I will try to focus more on digital art in 2010, I miss it a lot. The opportunity of working on new commissions would be a plus, too. I’m seriously thinking about getting a real freelance entrepreneur status, in order to get back to business ! I’m sure it will be exciting.

The last few weeks I’ve been secretly working on a “mysterious project” aside from my daily dose of lalunemauving… However there are a few pieces of evidence for you to guess which of my websites is going to come back to life this time !

By the way, Aenemya.com has been featured (in first position ^^) among 55 Beautiful Green Layouts in Web Design. Thanks a lot to Gisele Muller for picking my portfolio out. The site has been showcased on CSS Deluxe, too!

That's why today I decided to wake my Nikon D200 up and take some photographs at Montmartre, a famous place that I, however, only visited once in my lifetime. Here are a few shots from my walk, you can see more on FlickR :

I’ve also made a lot of improvements to La Lune Mauve, the cultural webzine I’ve put back online last January. Remember its steampunk interface ? Well, I’ve lightened it in order to allow the site to load much faster. I redesigned the categories, too (though I still have to work on the community category – Planète), and I truly hope the site’s navigation will be easier from now on.

I also wrote a few reviews, in French, though – unfortunately, I don’t write as much as I used to. And I do miss it a lot, like I miss taking care of my “real” blog. There’s no chance I will update it again, but something’s been on my mind for a few months : I’d like to redesign it, too, and make it become a kind of personal Netvibes page. The blog would agregate most of my personal feeds (Tumblr, FlickR, Twitter, my La Lune Mauve reviews, etc.), and would allow anyone to know what I’ve been up to. What do you think ?

Otherwise, I must admit I miss creating digital artwork A LOT. I haven’t created a single illustration for months – it seems my work and my nocturnal activities as obsessional geek have completely prevent me from starting something new. I feel sad about it, I wish I had, like, three or four parallel lives – one life for each field of my current life. I guess when I’m done ripening my websites, I’ll switch to another form of creation. In the meanwhile, I’m focusing on web design, learning a lot day after day (and even more since I’m a fulltime web designer/front-end developer at Pixmania).

Oh, I almost forgot : Aenemya.com has been featured on CSS Dsgn, DesignShack, Use jQuery and on Kevin Craft’s blog. I also wrote an article about my work on Le Fantastique au Féminin (in French).

Today I stumbled upon two awesome Japanese books (there was even a third one, but I couldn’t afford it >_<), edited by the Editions de Paris, which focus on… Paris interiors, usages and people. Isn’t it ironic to buy such books about Paris, edited in Japan, and imported from Japan to Paris? Anyway, the books are worth 40€ : beautifully illustrated with original photographs, they are also well printed on thick paper. Plus the pleasure to see Japanese typography even when you can’t read them.

The new gallery is more dynamic and also more selective: I kept only my favourite (and best?) work. You can fullview each picture thanks to the neat Shadowbox plugin, which will enhance your aenemic experience.

I also created a new link page from scratch, where I gathered my favourite artists. Check out their work, you won’t be disappointed! There are also new banners for you to use if you want to link to Aenemya.com from your own website (thanks in advance!).

At last but not least, I created this brand new blog in order to keep on writing as I used to in my French blog (now closed). I’ll talk about ART, obviously, inspiration, gear, and anything else that is Aenemya-related. Why don’t you subscribe to my RSS feed now? Thus you won’t miss a bit :)

Some thoughts…

I must say it was pretty odd not to have my own personal art space on the Web for last few years. Of course there are the various online profiles and galleries such as deviantART or Myspace, which are good alternatives to a regular portfolio. Nevertheless, I have always thought that a personal portfolio, patiently crafted with sweat and hard work, would better reflect one’s work as any other dull online profile.

I have always thought that creating a new website is, for an artist, a good way to show another side of their creativity. Of course, it’s not always possible to do everything by oneself since it requires some technical knowledge, as well as some strong usability notions. However, I think the interface design part can be achieved by almost any creative mind around there.

Aenemya was never meant to vanish, however I was trapped by being too confident in the crappy PHP scripts I used to use to generate my previous gallery. You will never catch me fooling around and doing no database backup. I’ve grown quite paranoid when it comes to data! But I think it’s a good thing. You often tend to neglect this – let’s admit it, rather boring – task, focusing more on the design and cool stuff. I learnt it the hard way.

I lost all the comments and guestbook messages you all wrote back in 2006. This is the reason why I didn’t have the courage to set up a new gallery comment system, although you can still comment on my blog entries. There’s no guestbook anymore either, I feel like these things do actually belong to other dimensions (like La Lune Mauve). This said, feel free to write me personal messages through my contact page! I’ll do my best to get back to you ASAP.

Now that I have gathered all previous work on this shiny new portfolio, I have to seriously consider creating fresh pictures again. I realise it’s been some time since I actually had time to work on personal projects ; I’ve been mostly working on commission the last two years, not speaking of my studies and various internships which did also reduce my free time. I’ve been writing a lot, too ; I realise writing has earned a place of choice among my creative process.

Styling the gravatar with CSS

Want to add some styling to the Gravatars of your top commentators? That’s easy. I inserted a span class='gravatar' tag in which the gravatar will be displayed.

In your CSS, simply define the appropriate class, such as:

span.gravatar {
float:left;
padding:2px 10px 2px 2px;
}

And you’re done! 8)

I also added a span class='nb-comments' tag to the number of comments that show at the right of each nickname, so that you can easily style these as well, like in the below example:

I’ll gladly give support, even though I’m not a professional developper. Let’s cross fingers Nate does include the gravatars in the next version of the plugin.

Comme je suis en train de développer La Lune Mauve, un webzine pour lequel j’utilise Wordpress comme CMS, j’avais besoin d’un plugin qui afficherait les top commentateurs *et* leur gravatar dans ma sidebar. A ma grande surprise, il semble qu’il n’existe aucun plugin qui le permette.

Vous voulez ajouter un peu de style aux gravatars de vos top commentateurs? Rien de plus facile. J’ai inséré une balise span class='gravatar' qui contient chaque gravatar.

Dans votre CSS, définissez simplement la class en question, comme ceci:

span.gravatar {
float:left;
padding:2px 10px 2px 2px;
}

Et voilà! 8)

J’ai également ajouté une balise span class='nb-comments' au nombre des commentaires qui s’affiche à la droite de chaque pseudo, pour que vous puissiez facilement en modifier l’affichage, comme dans l’exemple ci-dessous:
